God is Imminent
Have you ever felt as though God forgot you? Have you ever thought the Lord was uninvolved in your life? The word for this week is imminence. Imminence speaks of the nearness of God. Imminence speaks of God’s intimate involvement in your life. When circumstances and situations in your life seem chaotic, you may find it difficult to see God’s imminence in your life. There may be a tendency to think that if God is near that difficulties are far; however, the Bible does not teach us that God’s presence eliminates problems. Rather, the Bible teaches us that God’s presence abides with us always whether in troubled times or in trouble-free times.
The Psalmist wrote, “The Lord watches over the way of the righteous” (Psalms 1:6). David knew that the Lord was immanently leading him whether “beside quite waters” (Psalms 23:2) or “through the valley of the shadow of death” (Psalms 23:4). Though the nearness of God might be difficult to discern in troubled times, these are the times for faith building. Remember, “Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).
When you feel as through God has forgotten you or when you think the Lord is uninvolved in your life, exercise your faith by confessing God’s Word to remind you of God’s imminence in your life. “The Lord is near” (Philippians 4:5), “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5), and “You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord” (Psalms 139:3-4).
Be encouraged today! God is imminent!
