Trust
There are so many words to contemplate that I find it difficult to zero in on just one word. However, the word for this week is trust, specifically trust in the Lord. Trust is a word the Lord has continually impressed upon my heart. Trust and its corresponding word faith are the result of confidence in Jesus. This confidence is the result of knowing God’s Word and experiencing first-hand God’s faithfulness.
In whom do you trust? Psalms 20:7 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” The Psalmist was referring to those who put their trust in the military might of their governments as opposed to those who had come to know and trust in the Lord. Where is your trust this morning? Are you looking to yourself, to your doctors, to your government, to your employer, or even to your church? These are all humans or human institutions which by their very nature can disappoint you. However, those who put their trust in the Lord will never be disappointed (Isaiah 49:23).
This week, continually reflect upon this phrase, “I will trust in the Lord my God.” Repeat it throughout the week. Think about it throughout the day. Remind yourself in whom you trust. Rehearse Paul’s confident statement, “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (2 Timothy 1:12).
“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your path straight” (Proverbs 3:5).
