Receive God’s Blessing
Last Sunday morning I taught from Psalms 5. One verse in particular remains on my mind and I want to reflect on this verse with you today. It is Psalm 5:12, “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; and you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
Notice the first word, “surely.” Often we overlook simple words like surely preferring to delve into the words with deeper meaning. However, if we miss the depth of this simple word then we chance missing the profundity of this verse. Hear this word, contemplate this word, and absorb this word into your spirit. Surely or how about “certainly,” “undoubtedly,” “definitely,” or “without doubt,” Lord, you bless the righteous. Let the reality of this statement fill your heart and renew your mind with the reality of the Lord’s blessing upon your life.
We tend to consign the Lord’s blessing in our lives only to times that are absent from difficulty or problems. However, the blessing of the Lord in your life is without doubt, it is a certainty that encompasses our lives in good times and in difficult times. Notice the last part of the verse, “You surround them with your favor as with a shield.” When do you need a shield? You need a shield in difficult times, but notice it is the Lord’s favor, his ever-present blessings in your life that is surround your shield. So receive the blessing of the Lord in your life today. The blessing of the Lord surrounds you. You are living in the blessing of the Lord. “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; and you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
God bless you,
Pastor Gary
