Buckle Your Seat Belts: A Book Review
“Off-Road Disciplines” by Dr. Earl Creps is an appropriate title for this book because the read provides jarring bumps that awaken church leaders to the need to connect to their environment by reflecting on key spiritual disciplines easily overlooked. Dr. Creps offers many thought provoking ideas that require those in leadership to suspend their own mental models in order to hear clearly the call to bridge generational and cultural gaps in order to fulfill the mission of the church. The book explores twelve disciplines, six personal and six organizational that each invite the reader to participate in Creps’ own off-road journey to navigate the difficult terrain of defining the postmodern church and of discovering the paradigm shifts arising from the emerging church.
“Off-Road Disciplines” is not an easy read as it requires your undivided attention. If you are looking for a book to read before you go to bed at night, this is not the book because you may lose sleep thinking about what you have just read. However, if you are interested in a challenging and thought provoking read, I recommend “Off-Road Disciplines” to every church leader. Do not forget, to buckle your seat belt, as the road is often bumpy.
