A Cheerful Heart

< Back to Pastor Gary’s Blog

JOKE: A woman was speaking to a lawyer after the recent death of her fourth husband. During the conversation, the lawyer asked her what her husband did for a living. She told him that he was a mortician. The lawyer was astonished that this lady had actually outlived four men. “What were the occupations of the other three,” the lawyer asked. “Well,” she replied, “The first husband was a banker; the second was an actor; the third husband was preacher; the fourth husband was a mortician. Astonished, the lawyer asked the lady, “How or why did you marry a banker, an actor, a preacher, and a mortician?” To which the lady responded, “One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go.”

I have been writing these blogs for many months, and this is the first time I have told you a joke. But, there is a reason for it, the Bible says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22). As Christians, it is a good thing to laugh and have fun. After all, one of the fruit of the Spirit is “joy” (Galatians 5:22). I remember when I was a kid growing up in church, we used to sing a song with this line, “Smile awhile and give your face a rest.” Allow the fruit of joy to flow in your life, think about the goodness of the Lord, think about all he has done for you and for your family, think about the your friends and loved ones you will be reunited with in heaven, let the joy of the Lord radiate from your face…smile, and when they ask you why you are smiling use it as an opportunity to say, “Jesus makes the difference in my life.”

A cheerful heart is like a medicine, it can change your life and the life of those around you. I pray you have a blessed week and that the Lord baptizes you with joy that radiates from your smile.

God bless you,
Pastor Gary
