The Blame Game
Have you heard about the new reality television show? It is called “The Blame Game.” In the show the contestants do as many things wrong as they can until they get caught. Once they get caught they make up excuses for their behavior or better yet, they blame the other contestants. The winner is the one who convinces the judges that it was the other person that did it.
Oh, I’m sorry. That is not a new reality television show, it is reality, it is life. The blame game started in the Garden with Adam and Eve and continues today. If you have children chances are you play or have played that game. If you deal with people at work you probably have seen the game in action. However, did you know that according to the Bible, we have all participated in the blame game?
In Isaiah 53:3-5 (The Message translation) the Bible records these words concerning Jesus, “He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum. But the fact is, it was our pains he carried – our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures. But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him – our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong, on him, on him.”
Biblically, we all looked at Jesus and said, “I wonder what he did that was so bad that God would punish him that way.” The truth is, Jesus didn’t do it, we/you/I did it! Jesus was beaten and crucified for you. What is interesting is that Jesus is probably the only person in history that didn’t play the blame game, but who had every right to do so because he really didn’t do it.
Have you accepted what Jesus did for you? It is very simple, just ask the Lord to forgive you of your sins (stop playing the blame game), believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and that God raised him from the dead, and then confess with your mouth, “Jesus Christ is Lord.” I trust you will do this today.
God bless you,
