Lost Hour

< Back to Pastor Gary’s Blog

I don’t know about you, but this morning I awake with the idea of lost things on my mind. Perhaps it is because at some point this past weekend most of us (except our friends in Indiana) lost an hour of sleep. It seems the older I get the longer it takes me to recover from such a loss.

The Gospel of Luke, chapter 15 provides us with the story of the “Prodigal Son.” You may recall the story, a son of a wealthy land owner asks his father for his inheritance which is given to him. The son leaves home and through reckless living wastes his inheritance. One day he awoke in a pig pen and realized that even the servants in his father’s house were living better than he was living. So he decided to go home and as he got closer, his father saw him coming at a distance and he ran out to meet his son embracing him and throwing a grand party in honor of his son.

This story is a picture of our Father God’s love for each one of us. If you find yourself living in the pig pen of life, drifting away from the Lord you can make the same decision as the son in the story above. You are always welcome in your Father’s house and you will find if you turn toward home that your Father will run to embrace you as well. It is really very simple; just pray a prayer like this: “Father, forgive me. I have wandered away from you, but I want to come home.”

The hour of sleep is lost and gone until the fall of the year. It will probably take me that long to get back on track. However, you don’t have to wait that long to return home.

God bless you,

Pastor Gary
