Anticipation
Spring break is over in our neck-of-the-woods and things are getting back to normal (whatever that means). Spring break, like many things in life is an event that we anticipate for weeks in advance, however it comes and then goes quickly. There is another event that is coming quickly that I hope you are anticipating. What event? It might be considered the third greatest event in the history of the world and you want to make certain you do not miss it! Before I tell you what this great event is, I had best remind you of the first and second greatest events.
The first of the greatest events is the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Anticipation for this event started thousands of years before its occurrence. Prophets foretold the event, people looked forward to the event, yet when the event took place many people failed to participate. The second of the greatest events is the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as many overlooked the first event, many then and now fail to recognize the significance of God’s sacrifice of his one and only Son for their sin. These two events are so significant that if you have yet to recognize these two great events you will miss the third event altogether. So, before I go on I must ask you to examine your heart, have you repented of your sin and put your trust in Jesus Christ? If you can honestly say yes, they you can look forward to this next, and third greatest event. If you cannot say yes, then I urge you today to ask Jesus to forgive you and ask Jesus to come into your life. Confess Jesus as your Lord and begin living for him so that you can look forward with anticipation to this third greatest event in the history of the world.
The third greatest event is the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you living in anticipation of this soon coming event? Paul informs us that it is going to happen so quickly that there will not be time to take care of things at that moment. Jesus will come “in the twinkling of an eye.” So we must live each day with an expectation that this may be the day that Jesus comes. Living with this expectation produces hope, joy, and holiness in our lives. Hope, because we know things will get better. Joy, because we know we will see the Lord. Holiness, because without holiness no one will see the Lord.
Just like spring break as come and is now gone. Soon Jesus is going to come a second time. The question is, are you living in anticipation of the event? Remind yourself each day; this could be the day that Jesus comes.
God bless you,
Pastor Gary
