The Most Important Asset
Here is a riddle to start your week. What is the most valuable thing we have, we all have the same amount, and we are all running out of it?
The answer is “time.” Time is the most valuable thing we have because it is what we are paid for. On our jobs we are paid for our time. Of course we have knowledge that makes our time more valuable, but we are paid for the time we give our employer. Time is given to all in the same measure. Sure, some people may have more money, but they don’t have more time. Time is something that is running out for all of us. The older we get, the faster it runs out.
Time is very important and the Apostle Paul taught us to “redeem the time” (Eph. 5:16). That is, we are to make good use of the time that we have. If time is the most valuable thing that we have and we know that it is running out, then we need to make certain that we live each day to the full potential that day offers. Start by giving your time to the Lord and asking him to direct your words and your steps. Ask the Lord to enable you to make the best use of the time that you have today and everyday.
I am reading a book by Thomas Friedman entitled “The World is Flat.” In that book he quotes an African proverb. The proverb says, “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or gazelle. When the sun comes up, you’d better start running.”
It is Monday morning. Start running! Redeem the time!
God bless,
Pastor Gary
