The Journey

< Back to Pastor Gary’s Blog

We have often heard life being compared to a journey. In the journey of life the road has many twists and turns, ups and downs. At times we wind our way through valleys and at times we climb to the mountain peaks where it seems as though we can see forever. Yes, life is indeed a journey and I have found that it is good to have a few things on this journey. I would like to share these with you.

The first thing we need on this journey is a map. The map helps us to find our way, especially when we don’t know which way to go. The map that I recommend is called the Bible, God’s Word. As you make God’s Word a vital part of your journey, you will find the principles within the Bible will help you to avoid many of the pitfalls in the road. Psalms 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

The second thing we on this journey is a traveling companion. Actually we need two types of traveling companions. The first traveling companion is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will guide us (John 16:13), the Holy Spirit will help us (John 14:26), and the Holy Spirit will give us the ability to make the most of our journey (Acts 1:8).

The second traveling companion is actually a group of people called “friends.” Friends are so important on this journey. Friends pick you up when you fall down. Friends pray for you when you cannot pray for yourself. Friends encourage us when we are discouraged. Friends hold our hand in the valleys and rejoice with us on the mountains. Some of these friends we have with us for many years on the journey and some friends are only with us for a brief time. Where do we find friends like this? I recommend looking within the Church, this is where I find my best friends.

So, are you ready for the journey? As we follow the Map carefully and listen to our companions, we will certainly make it through this journey of life.

God bless you,
Pastor Gary
