The Blank Page
Yesterday was a fantastic day at New Life Church. It was a day that we had been planning for several months. One of the Missionary families NLC supports came to minister to us, but our plan was to bless them with an early Christmas. It was truly a blessing for each one of us at NLC to give to the Buller family.
I mention this because at lunch, Ken Buller was telling me of a message his wife, Sherri, gave a few weeks ago, which is the inspiration for this Good Morning Saints. If you are able to get to your Bible turn to Matthew 1:1, then turn back toward the end of the Old Testament book of Malachi (last book in the Old Testament). Somewhere between the end of Malachi and the beginning of Matthew many Bibles have a blank page or a page with “The New Testament” written on it. I want to talk to you about that “blank” page for a moment (pretty cool, writing about a blank page).
As Ken told me about Sherri’s message he said that the blank page fills a space of some 400 years between the prophet Malachi and the birth of Jesus. These years are known as the “silent years,” the years the Lord did not speak. I think that many times we can all identify with that blank page. I know for me there are times when it seems as though the Lord is not speaking to me, when the Lord is not as near as at other times. I guess you could say these are days when we are drawing a blank.
What do we do when we are drawing blank? Well, the truth is that we do what we have always been doing, we live by faith. Remember, faith calls those things that are not (blank) as though they were (Romans 4:17). Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see (blank) (Hebrews 11:1). You see, the page may look blank, but the reality is that the Lord is still there.
If you are drawing a blank, read what the Lord has already spoken in his Word, there is certainly plenty there! I have found in my walk with the Lord, that when he wants to tell you something, you will know it. For as Sherri pointed out, “at the right time” (Galatians 4:4) God did speak by sending his Son Jesus to redeem humanity.
So hang in there. Don’t give up and don’t give in. You may think you are drawing a blank, but know this, when the time is right the Lord will begin speaking and directing and showing you exactly what his plan is for you.
God bless,
Pastor Gary
