The Lord is My Shepherd

< Back to Pastor Gary’s Blog

I love the book of Psalms and of all of the Psalms my favorite has to be Psalms 23. This Psalm is a word picture of the wonder and goodness of our Great Shepherd Jesus. If you close your eyes and begin rehearsing David’s words in your mind you will find the Good Shepherd bringing peace to your soul.

The Psalm begins, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters.” Close your eyes and picture the green lush hills and the still and quiet waters. It is in this place of peace and serenity that the Lord “…Restores my soul.”

The world does not offer many opportunities for the restoration of the soul. The demands of life, the demands of the job, even the demands of Christian service can drain you physically, mentally, and spiritually. When it seems as though you have nothing else to give it is time to allow the Good Shepherd to restore your soul.

Take the necessary time to get away from it all in the green pastures, next to the quiet waters. You know the place. The place of prayer. The unheard prayer has yet to be prayed. The Good Shepherd is waiting to take you to the place of restoration. Close your eyes and take the step of faith and find your place of restoration.

God bless you,
Pastor Gary
